SRINAGAR: The ruling BJP leaders have diverse stand over the stone pelters who create law and order problem in Kashmir. While the centre and state government is calling for strict action against those who are part of ongoing uprising in Kashmir, the ruling BJP leaders Tuesday sought general amnesty of their relatives and workers who have been arrested on the charges of stone pelting.

The BJP which is power at the centre and in the state have been seeking strict action against those who create law and order problem in the Valley including those who resort to stone pelting. But in a party workers meet in Srinagar, some Kashmiri BJP leaders sought general amnesty for their workers and relatives who have been arrested on the charges of stone pelting.

“Some of our relatives and workers have been framed in fabricated cases.. Some of our workers and relatives have been arrested on the charges of stone pelting and should be given general amnesty. These people have strengthened the party base in the Valley then how can they be put behind bars,” various district presidents and general secretaries of the BJP told the meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of J&K BJP President Sat Sharma.  General Secretary of the party Ashok Koul was also present on the occasion. “What is the fun of being in BJP when government can't give our relatives and workers a general amnesty?” they questioned.

The BJP had convened a party workers meet in Srinagar on Tuesday to know their grievances and sought their suggestions how to normalize the current situation in Kashmir. They were also seeking assistance from the district party leaders to refrain youth from stone pelting and help the government in restoring normalcy in the Valley.

But the BJP leaders and workers convened their deep anguish to state party leadership that they had been ignored by the ministers for the last three months.

They said the opposition workers were ruling on the ground and district administrations were only resolving their issues.

“We are being completely sidelined even by the party ministers who don't pick up our phone calls,” a district BJP president and general secretary told the meeting

“During the unrest, we called number of times to the concerned DCs and SSPs and told them about our safety and security. But there was negative response from their side instead told us to move to and situation was not conducive to stay in Kashmir,” they said.

A north Kashmir district president of the BJP said his security was also withdrawn during the unrest. “A police official said the cops were facing a great threat then how could they provide me the security,” he said.

They were also demanding that they should be given some authority in making appointment of new SPOs which was recently announced by the centre.

“When we show some work on the ground only then the party will be strengthened at the gross root level,” they said.

On the occasion, Sat Sharma thanked the party cadres for their “consistency and dedication” in restoring the normalcy in the Valley.

“The government is dedicated for security of party workers, leaders and also to ensure security in minority pickets,” he said.

On the sidelines, Ashok Koul told the media that situation was limping back to normalcy in the Valley. He said the centre was ready to hold talks with anybody within the ambit of the Indian constitution but the separatists “closed their doors” when some of the members of all party delegation visited their homes.

“Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited the state thrice to ensure normalcy is prevailed in the state,” he said.

Koul said the rifle snatching of cops was a worrisome and police have been directed by the government to look into it very seriously.
