    Be good, Do good!

The time has come for the citizens to adopt a lifestyle which is good for the self and society as negativity has no place in the modern society and it should be rejected by one and all. The basic need of every single city and town today is ensuring its cleanliness and hygiene as time has gone when the societies used to follow ‘let it be’ culture as far as maintaining cleanliness is concerned. What truly reflects any community’s progress as a society today is not merely how it preserves its heritage but how it maintains the cleanliness and hygiene of the surroundings especially after the launch of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was the watershed moment in India’s journey towards a cleaner and a healthier nation. One can relate this responsibility of keeping the country clean with the Mantra of ‘Be Good and Do Good’ because this moral compass can help in achieving the target sooner than later. The Swachh Bharat Mission has galvanized the nation into action, from metropolitan cities to remote villages, and Jammu too has seen improved sanitation infrastructure and heightened awareness over the last decade. However, as impactful as the initiative has been, it is ultimately not government campaigns but public action that will determine the success of this mission. Take the example of people consuming foodstuff in their vehicles especially in cars at the places like Gandhi Nagar Rehri Zone, Jewel Chowk, Janipur, Gole Market, etc. The day the need to lift the filth and garbage from these places and many others in the city will be eliminated as people will stop littering from their vehicles, will be the moment when one could say that mission be good and do good has become successful as of today, the scenario is dismal as there are several residents of the city of temples who still need to learn the lessons on cleanliness because their leftovers on the roads, streets and other places are acting as bottlenecks in the way of making Jammu an ideally clean city. The culture of cleanliness has to be nurtured as soon as possible to fulfill the dream of PM Modi of making India cleanest among all. One thing is sure that garbage-strewn streets, clogged drains, and illegal dumping in Jammu is not because of lack of resources but due to lack of civic responsibility. It is high time the people should realize that cleanliness is not someone else’s job but it is the duty of every single entity dwelling in the vicinity.
