Bandipora, Mar 7: Authorities on Saturday suspended vehicular movement on the Bandipora–Gurez road following fresh snowfall at Razdan Top, officials said.
The decision was taken as a precautionary measure after snowfall made the high-altitude Razdan Pass slippery and unsafe for traffic.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gurez, Mukhtar Ahmad, confirmed that traffic on the road linking Bandipora with the remote Gurez Valley has been suspended until further orders.
“Due to snowfall at Razdan Top and as a precautionary measure, movement on the Bandipora–Gurez road shall remain suspended till further orders,” the SDM said.
Officials said snowfall at the pass reduced visibility and created slippery conditions, prompting authorities to halt traffic to prevent any untoward incidents.
Razdan Top, located at an altitude of over 11,000 feet, serves as the main road link connecting Gurez Valley with the rest of Kashmir through Bandipora district.
The road frequently faces disruptions during winter due to heavy snowfall and harsh weather conditions.
Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored and the road will be reopened once weather conditions improve and snow clearance operations are completed. (KNT)
