IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, stated on Tuesday that the terrorists planned the attack on a police bus in the Zewan region of Srinagar's outskirts last evening, which killed three cops.
The IGP was speaking to reporters at the wreath-laying ceremony for one of the slain cops at District Police Lines Srinagar.
ASI Ghulam Hassan of Top Neel Bharthand Ramban, Shafique Ali (Sgct) of Mamakoti Mahore in Reasi district and Rameez Ahmad, son of Mohammad Amin of Yachama Ganderbal were killed in the attack at around 6 pm yesterday when the bus carrying 25 cops was returning from deployment duty. Eleven other cops were injured in the attack carried out by three Jaish militants as per IGP Kashmir.
“It was a planned attack. They must have done a recce of the area and seen that the bus is coming back every day in routine after getting off duty,” IGP Kashmir said.
“We have inputs about the group and will neutralise it very soon,” he said.
The IGP further said that the blood trail of one of the militants injured during an abortive weapon snatching bid during the attack “suggests that the group first fled to Pampore after the attack and then to the Tral area of Pulwama and police is working to track down the group”.
