Arun Deep bags men’s Sport Climbing title

, Sept 25: As expected Arun Deep Singh of Jammu, an climber, won the coveted Men's title whereas Kashish Bharti of Udhampur, became the new champion in the Junior Boys category of the 23rd J&K U T Sport Climbing Championship which concluded at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, here.  Saksham Slathia of Jammu and Prince Thakur of Udhampur bagged the second and third positions respectively in the Junior Boys category.

Similarly, Kafeel ul Haq of Pulwama and Aayana Bhagat of Jammu became the new champions in the sub junior boys and sub junior girls categories respectively. Aryan Rauthan of Army Public School, Damana and Ankit of Jammu secured the second and third positions respectively in the Sub Junior Boys category. In the Men's category both Arun Deep and Mrityunjay Sharma, a former international climber, topped the 40ft high wall and the result was determined on the basis of time taken to top the wall in which Arun emerged victorious. Vikas Singh secured the third position. In the Junior girls categories Meetali Khajuria of Jammu, Nancy Sharma of Udhampur and Ulfat Farooq of Pulwama secured the first, second and third positions respectively.

Highlight of the competition was no doubt the superb performance of Aayana Bhagat in the Sub Junior Girls category. Her climb was an outstanding exhibition of power and technique. The 13 year old Aayana of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu climbed immaculately from one hold to another making excellent climbing moves to top the wall in great style. The spectators were held spellbound during her climb. Uzma and Rutba, both from Pulwama bagged the second and third positions respectively. At the concluding function Parveen Sharma, Chairman, The Citizens' Cooperative Bank Ltd was the chief guest who along with Arti Sharma, Chairperson, Sprawling Buds ICSE School distributed prizes and medals to the winners and mementoes to the participating institutions and distinguished personalities. Prominent among others present were Ram Khajuria, senior vice president; Sumit Khajuria, vice president; Shawetica Khajuria general secretary; Syed Abdul Mohsin and Manik Slathia; Seema Sharma, Director, Sprawling Buds School; Seema Khatotra from Kishtwar; Jameel Mustaffa of Sunridges Trekking and Mountaineering Club, Pulwama and technical experts from IMF North Zone Committee.

The chief guest congratulated the Association for producing top ranked sport climbers of the country like Shivani Charak and Arun Deep Singh and mountaineers like Everester Ram Singh Slathia, Everester Nirmal Kumar, Rahul Jarngal, Sandeep Singh and Manik Slathia.
