‘119 polling stations created for 85604 voters'

Srinagar, Jun 19: The authorities have made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Anantnag by-polls, slated to be held on June 22. The election campaigns will close by tomorrow evening.

A total of 85604 voters as per the figures available with election authorities of the State are expected to exercise their franchise on June 22.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Shantmanu told that all the arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of polls. “Besides state police, 40 additional Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were called and have been deployed,” he said, adding that the poling officers have also been trained in this regard.

Shantmanu told that a total of 119 polling stations have been created for the voters who are scheduled to exercise their franchise. “102 polling stations have been created in while 15 polling stations have been created in . One polling station has been created for Udhampur while another for Delhi for the migrant voters,” he said.

Pertinently, eight candidates including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti are trying their luck in the Anantnag Assembly segment which is going to polls on June 22, the seat left vacant after the demise of the then Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who represented Anantnag Assembly constituency in the 87-member State Assembly.

Besides PDP, Congress and Conference (NC), five Independent candidates are also in the fray.

Congress has fielded Hilal Ahmed Shah as its candidate while NC elected Iftikar Hussian Misgar as it candidate. Five Independents including one Tejinder Singh from minority Sikh community is also in the fray.

Nonetheless, experts believe that there will be a triangular contest among the candidates of three main political parties i.e PDP, NC and Congress.
