Apple Intelligence Compatible Devices: Which iPhones, iPads and Macs Will Get Access to New AI Features?

As Apple recently rolled out the first betas of upcoming iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia updates, users have been excited about the new Artificial Intelligence capabilities coming to iPhones, iPads and Macs. Dubbed internally as ‘Apple Intelligence’, these features promise to enhance the experience across Apple’s portfolio. However, many are wondering – will their current Apple device support these new AI tools? In this article, we breakdown which specific iPhones, iPads and Macs will have access to Apple Intelligence.

While the initial betas only include a subset of the planned AI features, Apple has confirmed that capabilities like improved Siri, enhanced Photos search and more polished language assistance will arrive on iPhones dating back to the iPhone 15 series, as well as the latest iPads and Macs. More cutting-edge additions to Apple Intelligence, such as image generation from text and integrated ChatGPT functionality, may require newer Apple silicon under the hood.

For iPhones, the iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max and all iPhone 16 models should receive full Apple Intelligence support. In the iPad family, the M1 or newer iPad Air models and any iPad Pro with the M1 chip or its successors will be compatible. As for Macs, the latest M1, M2 and upcoming M3 powered MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac Studio and Mac mini devices are confirmed to make the cut.

It’s worth noting Apple’s AI tools will roll out gradually. At launch, only U.S. users will be able to access certain experiences while others may require joining a waitlist. Additionally, if your device is not on the above lists, you can still enjoy iOS 18/iPadOS 18/macOS Sequoia – just some advanced intelligence perks may be missing. Moving forward, Apple is expected to expand support to more aging devices where possible.

Stay tuned for the full release of Apple Intelligence later this year, and check if your iPhone, iPad or Mac is on this list to know what new AI assistants may soon be at your fingertips. With simple, helpful and intelligent features, these upgrades could dramatically enhance how we interact with Apple’s ecosystem.
