Court functioning resumes

Jammu Tawi, Feb 11: The Lawyers Action Committee (LAC) today suspended its protest Dharna at the District Court Complex after the regular physical hearing started in all courts including the High Court at Jammu.
Agitating lawyers, who have been observing Dharna under the banner of Lawyers Action Committee, took note of resumption of physical hearings in all Courts including in the High Court, permission to concerned litigants including the witnesses to enter the Courts, Hard Copies of cases having permitted and on opening of Bar Rooms, Canteens, Juice Corner etc. deliberated the development and suspended the 119-day old Dharna.
“After the deliberations on fulfilment of some of our major demands, LAC has decided to suspend the ongoing dharna initiated since 15th October 2020, however, we will continue our struggle by other democratic means till our other demands are also met by the Hon’ble High Court and the government”, a press release said.
The Committee took into consideration the fact that all this has facilitated the normal functioning of Courts. This satisfies to much extent the demand of lawyers for normalization of the functioning of Courts which comprises important pillars of democracy. The Committee decided to discuss with the Chief Justice, the issues of holding elections for J&K Bar Council and the issue of pending contempt proceedings against some lawyers.
The demands of shifting back the Registration from Revenue to Judicial Officers, opening of Consumer Courts, making provision of availability of stamp papers inside the Court Complex have to be addressed by the Government. The Lawyers Action Committee shall take various measures to press for a solution of these demands. The Lawyers Action Committee has proposed to hold a convention in Jammu soon and invite representatives of all political, social, trade, literary organizations and prominent citizens to deliberate on major issues affecting the lawyers and general public especially after the downsizing of the erstwhile state of J&K in Union Territory.

Jalmeria(Convener), AK Sawhney (Former President Jammu Bar), BR Sharma (Former Vice President Jammu Bar), Vinod Abrol, CS Gupta (Former Secretary Jammu Bar), Shah Mohd Choudhary, Roop Lal, Subodh Singh Jamwal, JP Sharma, Meharban Singh, Kunal Singh Chib, SC Sharma, Warris Gill, Harish Kaila, Amit Gupta, Chetan Misri, SZ Ahmed, Dinesh Singh Jamwal, Mulkh Raj, Sumeshwar Kohli, Naresh Kumar, Gagandeep Singh Lucky, Vikas Gupta, Vikas Suri, AS Sahi, Danish Gill and many other lawyers.
