Jammu, Mar 7: Authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle mobile phones to a jail inmate in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district after two handsets were recovered from a parcel during routine checking at District Jail Bhaderwah on Saturday, officials said.
The parcel was meant for an inmate lodged in the jail under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for the past one month. The inmate belongs to the Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, officials said.
According to officials, the recovery was made when jail authorities were conducting routine inspection of parcels delivered to the prison.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the parcel had been booked from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, they said.
Following the recovery, the authorities seized the two mobile phones and informed the police about the matter.
Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation to ascertain the involvement of persons behind the attempt to smuggle the phones into the jail, officials added. (Agencies)
