ICC Chief Jay Shah Meets J&K Players After Historic Ranji Trophy Victory

New Delhi, Mar 5: Jay Shah, chairman of the International Cricket Council, met members of the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team following their historic triumph in the Ranji Trophy, where they defeated eight-time champions Karnataka cricket team to secure their maiden title.

Jammu and Kashmir clinched the championship at the Hubli Cricket Ground on February 28, marking a landmark moment for cricket in the region.

After the victory, players expressed their desire to meet Shah and acknowledge the role his leadership played in strengthening cricket in Jammu and Kashmir during his tenure as secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The ICC chairman met the team and shared words of encouragement as they celebrated their historic success. The BCCI shared photographs of the meeting on social media platform X.

“The historic triumph of Jammu & Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy will remain a proud milestone for cricket in the region,” the BCCI said in a post.

The board said the players wished to share the special moment with Shah after their memorable victory, recognising the role his leadership played in promoting cricket in the Union Territory.

The BCCI also congratulated the entire Jammu and Kashmir squad and the cricket fraternity for scripting what it described as a remarkable chapter in Indian domestic cricket, while thanking Shah for taking time to meet the winning team.

Jammu and Kashmir scripted history at the Hubli Cricket Ground by clinching the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy title based on a massive first-innings lead. After posting a formidable 584 in their first innings, the team bowled out Karnataka for 293 to take a decisive 291-run lead.

The side further strengthened its position by declaring the second innings at 342 for 4, powered by an unbeaten 160 from opener Qamran Iqbal and an unbroken century stand with Sahil Lotra, before the match ended in a draw and the title was awarded on the basis of the first-innings lead.
