Jammu Tawi, March 2: District Police Udhampur intensified its crackdown on bovine smuggling during January and February 2026, registering 34 cases and rescuing 250 bovines from illegal transportation.
A total of 39 persons were arrested or detained, including 38 accused in smuggling cases, while one habitual offender was booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Police also seized 28 vehicles used in the offences.
In a major action, movable properties linked to smuggling were attached under Section 107(5) BNSS. The attached assets include two vehicles — a Tata Mobile and a tanker — worth ₹50 lakh, aimed at breaking the financial network of offenders.
Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against bovine smuggling and urged the public to share credible information to curb the illegal activity.
