Jaipur, Feb 16: At least seven workers were burnt alive in a massive fire that broke out at a chemical factory in Bhiwadi’s Khairthal-Tijara district of Rajasthan on Monday morning, with two more feared trapped inside, officials said.
Around 25 workers were present when the blaze erupted at about 9.30 am in the Khuskheda industrial area. Smoke was first noticed around 10 am and flames quickly engulfed the unit, authorities said.
Additional District Magistrate Sumita Mishra said police on routine patrol alerted fire and rescue teams and launched an operation. “Nine people were reported trapped inside. Seven bodies have been recovered so far and efforts are on to locate the remaining two,” she said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives, calling the incident “tragic and deeply saddening” and expressing sympathy with bereaved families. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, according to a post by the PMO on X.
