Jammu, Jan 30: The Indian Army on Friday swiftly repelled multiple Pakistani drones attempting to intrude into Indian territory along the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials and sources said.
Around 15 drones were spotted flying near the Jodha Makan–Birandori area of the Keran sector, prompting immediate action by alert Army troops. Personnel of the 6th Rashtriya Rifles observed the drones entering Indian airspace and opened fire, forcing them to retreat back across the LoC.
No casualties or damage were reported in the incident. Security has been tightened in the area and the situation is being closely monitored, officials said, adding that the Ministry of Defence has not issued an official statement so far.
The latest incident comes amid a series of drone sightings along the border in recent weeks. On January 15, two drone sightings were reported near the International Border in the Jammu sector, where the Army deployed counter-unmanned aerial system measures.
Earlier, on January 13, Indian troops opened fire after multiple suspected Pakistani drones briefly hovered over the Manjakote sector of Rajouri district before returning to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The repeated sightings had also prompted Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi to strongly take up the issue with Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations over drone activity along the Jammu sector.
