Jammu Tawi, Jan 22: In an irony of the situation, the new Assembly complex being proposed at Jammu 15 years back is in total shambles, while the old complex is being readied for the upcoming  2nd Budget session of Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) beginning from 2nd of February onwards at Jammu.

The new chairs in the old Assembly complex are being put in place, the central hall, where the Lieutenant Governor (LG) will address, is also being readied, sources said.

They also said that the media gallery is also being readied for the upcoming Budget session and the whitewash and requisite arrangements are also being out in place for conduct of the Budget session.

The security arrangements are also being put in place with several check points at Jammu for afe and secure conduct of the 2nd Budget session at Jammu.

However, the new Assembly complex proposed in Jammu in 2011 is still in shambles. The work for the new Assembly complex at Jammu was started in 2011 and the work was estimated to be completed at a cost of around Rs 104 crores.

Highly placed sources said that there is paucity of funds and now the cost for the new Assembly complex coming up at Jammu has escalated to around Rs 250 crores.

They also said the work on the new Assembly complex has almost been stopped due to shortage of funds. Despite repeated attempts, the Speaker did not respond to the queries in this regard.
