Jammu Tawi, Jan 12: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has failed to generate the requisite revenue to meet its day to day expenses, salaries of the employees and other miscellaneous expenses, due to which it is still dependent upon the government grants.

“The JMC requires between Rs 250-300 crores to meet its expenses including salaries to its employees, maintenance of its assets and meet other day to day expenses,” former, JMC Mayor, Rajinder Sharma informed Northlines.

“The government provides ‘Grant in Aid’ to the JMC to meet its expenses and also for sustenance of the Corporation”, he said.

“In this financial year, the JMC has earned a total revenue of Rs 34 crores by its various means,” The Commissioner, JMC, Devansh Yadav, said, while adding, “The JMC earned this revenue by means of various advertisement hoardings installed all across the city, revenue from parking slots all across municipal limits, rent of JMC’s quarters, shops, building permissions and other miscellaneous fees and fines and other means.”

The JMC with its programme under the Smart City Project has also earned a revenue of Rs 10-11 crore from door-to-door garbage collection, which gave a major boost to JMC’s revenue generation but it was not sufficient enough to meet overall expenses of the Corporation.
