Nahan (HP), Jan 9: At least nine people were killed and around 40 others injured on Friday after a private bus plunged into a nearly 500-feet-deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, police said.
The accident occurred in the afternoon when the bus, travelling from Shimla to Kupvi via Rajgarh, veered off the road near Haripurdhar village, about 95 kilometres from the district headquarters Nahan, and fell into the gorge, landing upside down.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sangrah, Sunil Kayath, who is supervising the rescue operation at the spot, confirmed the casualties and said that the injured were being shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Rescue teams, including police and local administration, were immediately rushed to the site. Efforts are underway to provide medical assistance to the injured and ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
