Fake Job Racket: EOW Files Chargesheet Against Man Posing As Govt Officer

Srinagar, Dec 31: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet in a cheating case involving a fake job racket, in which an accused allegedly duped a complainant of lakhs of rupees by posing as a government officer and promising employment.

In a statement, the EOW said it has submitted a chargesheet before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Budgam, in FIR No. 13/2023 registered under Section 420 IPC against Ghulam Nabi Hudda, son of Mohammad Hudda, resident of Satakchay, Kargil, presently at Gasiyar Hawal, Zadibal, Srinagar.

The case stems from a written complaint alleging that in 2021, the complainant came into contact with the accused, who falsely projected himself as a high-ranking government official and claimed he could arrange government jobs in exchange for money. Acting on these assurances, the complainant deposited lakhs of rupees into the accused’s bank account in nine separate instalments.

Despite repeated assurances, the accused neither provided the promised government employment nor refunded the amount, thereby cheating the complainant, the statement said.

Following the complaint, Crime Branch Kashmir, now EOW Kashmir, initiated a detailed investigation. During the probe, the allegations were found to be prima facie substantiated, establishing that the accused had intentionally deceived the complainant with dishonest intent, causing wrongful financial loss.

The acts of commission and omission on the part of the accused clearly attract the offence punishable under Section 420 IPC, the statement said.

After completion of the investigation, the chargesheet has been submitted before the competent court for judicial determination. (KNC)
