Jammu, Dec 30: Panic briefly gripped the Jammu bus stand on Tuesday afternoon after an unclaimed bag was spotted in the crowded area, triggering a bomb scare. However, security agencies later confirmed that the bag contained only clothes and posed no threat.
According to officials, a police team along with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) rushed to the spot and immediately cordoned off the bus stand after receiving information about the unattended bag lying near a concrete pillar. The BDS carried out a thorough inspection and found nothing suspicious.
The bag was subsequently shifted to a local police station, and efforts are underway to trace its owner. Normal activity at the bus stand resumed after the security clearance.
Officials said security has been tightened across the Jammu region in view of New Year celebrations. Meanwhile, a large-scale anti-terrorist operation continues in the higher reaches of Kishtwar, Doda, Poonch and Rajouri districts. (Agencies)
