Jammu Tawi: A man accused of repeated criminal and anti-social activities was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, police said. The accused, Pradeep Ambedkariya, has been named in four FIRs filed over the past two years under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and has been lodged in Udhampur district jail.
According to a police spokesperson, Ambedkariya was known for “habitual criminal” behaviour, including attempts to disrupt law and order through provocative speeches and actions that allegedly hurt religious sentiments. The FIRs against him include charges under Section 299 (outraging religious feelings), Section 126(2) (wrongful restraint), Section 191(2) (rioting), Section 270 (public nuisance), Section 351(2) (intimidation) and Section 352 (intentional insult provoking breach of peace).
Police added that additional adverse reports had been filed at Kathua Police Station. A dossier was subsequently prepared and forwarded to the district magistrate, who issued the PSA detention order to prevent further unlawful activities.
Officials said Ambedkariya had been absconding after allegedly posting derogatory remarks against Hindu deities on social media, triggering public outrage. (Agencies)
