New Delhi: The Indian Navy on Monday commissioned INS Mahe, the first vessel of the Mahe-class anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft, marking a significant boost to its coastal combat capabilities. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi presided over the commissioning ceremony, which introduced a new generation of sleek, swift and fully indigenous shallow-water combatants.
Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), INS Mahe showcases advanced naval design under India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Compact yet high-performance, the vessel is engineered for agility, precision and endurance — key attributes for operations in littoral zones, the Navy said.
Equipped with a blend of firepower, stealth and mobility, INS Mahe is designed to track and neutralise submarines, conduct coastal patrols and safeguard India’s critical maritime approaches, it added. (Agencies)
