Mumbai, Nov 11: Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, 89, is “recovering and responding to treatment”, his son Sunny Deol’s team confirmed on Tuesday, urging fans to pray for his health and ignore false reports circulating online.
“Sir is recovering and responding to treatment. Let’s all pray for his good health and long life,” read the statement from Sunny Deol’s office.
The clarification came after a wave of fake news about Dharmendra’s death flooded social media earlier in the day. His daughter Esha Deol took to Instagram to confirm that her father is “stable and recovering”, while his wife, actor and BJP MP Hema Malini, condemned the spread of “false news” and reiterated that the actor is under proper medical care.
Sunny Deol had earlier appealed to the public not to spread rumours, assuring that Dharmendra is “stable and under observation” at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, where he has been receiving treatment since October 31.
Several film industry colleagues, including Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Govinda, visited the veteran star at the hospital. Dharmendra, one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved icons, will turn 90 on December 8 and is next slated to appear in the war drama Ikkis, releasing on December 25. (Agencies)
