Srinagar, Nov 10: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of running a “directionless government” and failing to fulfil even a single major promise made before elections.
Addressing a press conference, Mehbooba said the National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance, despite enjoying a strong majority, has disappointed the people. “Omar Abdullah had promised to remove smart meters but is now promoting them. He had vowed to provide free gas cylinders, but prices have doubled and relief is missing,” she said, adding that unemployment, inflation and harassment of the poor have increased.
She accused the Chief Minister of deflecting questions on governance by repeatedly attacking the PDP-BJP alliance. “Instead of answering people about his failures, Omar Sahib only talks about PDP and BJP. This shows his frustration and lack of vision,” she remarked.
Mehbooba alleged that the government failed to bring back under-trial prisoners from outside jails despite commitments and has been targeting poor families under its “bulldozer policy.” “Those living on state land for decades are being called encroachers while influential people have raised mansions on forest land,” she said.
The former Chief Minister said the government’s priorities have shifted from governance to propaganda. “Inflation is crippling people, unemployment is at its peak, and basic services remain unaddressed. The Omar-led regime has lost touch with ground realities,” she said, vowing that the PDP will continue to fight for people’s rights both inside and outside the Assembly.
