JKCA Official Mithun Manhas Files Nomination For Post Of BCCI President

New Delhi, Sept 21: Former Delhi batsman Mithun Manhas is poised to become the next president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after being chosen as the candidate for the top post at a meeting in Delhi. His selection comes following the exit of Roger Binny, who stepped down due to the BCCI’s 70-year age cap rule.

Manhas, currently administrator of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), has previously served as convener of the North Zone for the Duleep Trophy and was part of the Gujarat Titans support staff in the IPL. A prolific domestic player, he featured in 157 first-class matches, scoring 9,714 runs in an 18-year career.

While Manhas’s nomination surprised many, other names in the fray included former cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Raghuram Bhatt. The BCCI is expected to retain Devajit Sakia as secretary and Rajeev Shukla as vice-president, while Bhatt is tipped to become treasurer and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia of Chhattisgarh the likely joint secretary.

Arun Dhumal is set to continue as IPL chairman, though legal consultations are underway to determine if a cooling-off period applies, given his prior three-year stint as treasurer.

Fresh elections will also be held for the Apex Council and the IPL Governing Council. Jaydev Shah, son of veteran administrator Niranjan Shah and a former Saurashtra captain with 120 first-class appearances, is expected to secure a spot in the Apex Council.

As per the election circular, state associations had until September 12 to file nominations. Withdrawals are allowed until September 23, with voting scheduled for September 28. (Agencies)
