Doda, Sept 8. In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage across Jammu and Kashmir, BDC Chairperson of Kahra Block, Miss Fatima Farooq, was allegedly assaulted by her husband while she was live on social media.
According to reports, Fatima Farooq was streaming a video in support of AAP legislator Mehraj Malik, when the attack occurred. The incident, which unfolded in full public view through the live broadcast, has gone viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism from political leaders, activists, and citizens alike.
Eyewitnesses and viewers of the live session claimed that Fatima was making a statement defending Malik when her husband appeared in the frame and physically attacked her. The disturbing visuals have raised serious questions about violence against women in politics, as well as the safety and dignity of elected representatives.
Political observers note that this development comes at a sensitive time when the detention of MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA) has already triggered a storm in the region. The assault on a woman public representative while voicing her political opinion has further intensified the debate.
Several local leaders and social organisations have demanded immediate action against the accused, calling the incident a blot on democratic values. Meanwhile, women’s rights activists have stressed the need for stronger measures to protect female representatives from both domestic and political violence.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
