Shopian, May 13: Three terrorists affiliated with Pakistan-backed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were gunned down by security forces in an encounter in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The operation, which began in Kulgam, shifted to a forested area in Shopian where the militants were neutralised after a prolonged exchange of fire. Authorities have confirmed that search operations are ongoing, as intelligence inputs suggest that one more terrorist may be hiding in the vicinity.
The incident comes shortly after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire, aimed at de-escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC). However, continued infiltration attempts and terror activities by Pakistan-based groups threaten to derail the fragile peace. The attack follows the recent massacre of Hindu tourists in Pahalgam, allegedly carried out by The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of LeT. While TRF initially claimed responsibility, it later distanced itself after India’s swift and forceful response to the killings.
The slain terrorists were reportedly linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba units targeted earlier this year during Operation Sindoor, in which the Indian Air Force struck key terror infrastructure across the border. (Agencies)
