There is no doubt in the fact that in today’s world social media and even mainstream media of a country can play a vital role in winning the wars by creating fake narratives and demoralizing the adversaries without even firing a single bullet. It seems that rogue country Pakistan is relying on this mode by investing much in creating narratives which can demoralize the people of India and even its forces deployed on ground after India took a firm stand to teach her neighbour a lesson of life after the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack allegedly orchestrated in Pakistan and carried out by terrorists who reached the tourist destination after infiltrating into this side.
The action taken by the Indian government by way of blocking 16 Pakistani Youtube channels after the Pahalgam attack is a befitting response to Pakistan’s propaganda factories generating bogus narratives to mislead the world, especially the Indian public and security forces. Although, Indians so not rely on the fake narratives aired by the Pakistani media channels but the government of India has taken a right step by keeping a vigil on Pakistani media and consequently blocking 16 of its Youtube Channels for airing the content which is fake, false and deceptive, and has been deliberately prepared for demoralizing the people in India.
Reportedly, 16 Pakistani YouTube channels were blocked for allegedly disseminating provocative and communally sensitive content as well as false and misleading narratives against India, its Army and security agencies.
It is pertinent to mention that the decision in this regard has been taken following recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs in the wake of the April 22 terror attack at Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.
Furthermore, the need to counter such psychological operations by Pakistan underscores the importance of proactive information warfare strategies. India must not only remain vigilant but also enhance its own narrative-building capabilities to expose and neutralize the lies being peddled by hostile elements across the border. This includes equipping media monitoring agencies with advanced tools and ensuring swift action against misinformation. Public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on identifying and rejecting fake content can also serve as a powerful deterrent. In the modern era of hybrid warfare, where information is as potent as weapons, maintaining control over digital spaces and preventing the manipulation of public perception is no longer optional—it is a national security imperative.
It is imperative for the Indian government to keep an eagle eye view on all such attempts by Pakistan to ensure that the unprincipled country should not succeed in giving shape to its nefarious designs against India as already the country has faced many problems due to Pakistani misdemeanors and deceptive agendas.
