Kisan Sabha condemns Billawar killings, demands strong action against terrorism

Jammu Tawi: In an emergent meeting, the Kisan Sabha expressed deep anguish over the recent killings of three youth—Varun Singh, Yogesh Singh, and Darshan Singh—of villages Marhon and Dheota, who were on their way to attend a marriage function in Village Malhar (Ishoo). These killings, along with the earlier deaths of two youth, Shamsher Chand and Roshan Lal, from village Kohag in February, are suspected to be linked to terrorist activities in the Billawar and Lohai-Malhar tehsils.

Kisan Sabha leaders, including President Hari Chand Jalmeria, Vice President Dr. Ghanisham Singh Charak, General Secretary Dewan Chand, Vice President Master Swarn Singh, and other members, strongly condemned the rising incidents of violence in the area. They expressed grave concern over the government and security agencies’ failure to prevent such attacks and apprehend or eliminate the culprits responsible for these acts of terrorism.

These killings come on the heels of a deadly terrorist attack last year, in which five army personnel were killed in Village Badnota, along with two police officers in separate incidents. The rising number of attacks has instilled fear and anxiety among the local population.

The Kisan Sabha leaders suspect that a strong network of terrorists is operating in the region and targeting the peaceful areas of Billawar, which had remained relatively calm until now. They called on the Union Home Minister, responsible for the security of Jammu and Kashmir, to ensure a terror-free environment in Billawar and the surrounding regions. They also urged the Union Territory Government to take immediate and decisive action to curb the growing wave of terrorism in the area.
