    Persistent Cross-Border Infiltration

It is a bit disappointing that despite all out efforts to stop infiltration along LoC and through IB in J&K the menace is continuing with Pakistan supporting this illegal activity with impunity. Going by the present situation along the borders with Pakistan one can say that the country has been facing persistent threat from cross-border terrorism.

In this context, two terrorists have been eliminated after the troops foiled an infiltration attempt by a heavily armed group of ultras along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Khari Karmara area of Poonch district. The bid by the terror mongers to infiltrate to this side of the LOC was foiled after troops deployed along the LoC detected suspicious movement in the area leading to heavy exchange of fire which continued all through the night.

Such incidents are the testimony to the fact that rogue country Pakistan has been continuing to abet and support infiltration despite numerous efforts by Indian security forces to curb it. Although the security forces have made significant strides in strengthening the security infrastructure, including deploying advanced surveillance technology, enhancing border security, and conducting surgical strikes against terror camps, a lot more has to be accomplished to fully contain Pakistan from indulging into such misadventures.

It is laudable that many attempts by the terrorists to infiltrate inside India have been successfully thwarted in the past making it evident that the steps taken to counter this problem have been working but still there certain gaps which are required to be plugged in to stop the western neighbour from even thinking about taking any action which could be detrimental to the safety and security of the countrymen.

The continued attempts of Pakistan to send in terrorists for disrupting peace in J&K can be stopped only by adopting a multifaceted approach. Diplomatic pressure on Pakistan and international pressure can isolate the rogue country in the global arena and force accountability but the disruption in ties is proving to be a big bottleneck in this context.

India should continue to keep its stance of frozen ties with Pakistan but when it comes to the cases of infiltration, it has full right to raise the objection with that country by giving adequate proof as no country in today’s world can get away after committing such despicable acts that have the potential to disrupt peace and snatch away lives of innocent people. The government of India should revisit its stand in such cases and raise the issue vehemently at all possible levels and forums across the globe as the involvement of Pakistan in abetting terrorism is unacceptable universally.

Unfortunately going by the present situation along borders, it could be said that the efforts made by the concerned quarters to stop infiltration are simply not enough.
