Railway Ministry to set up New Division in Jammu by reorganizing Firozpur Division

New Delhi, Jan 2: The Railway Ministry has announced the establishment of a new division under the Northern Railway Zone, with its headquarters to be located in Jammu. This new division will be formed by reorganizing the Firozpur division, as per a ministry communication dated January 1, 2025.

The Jammu division will comprise five key sections: Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur (currently named after martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan), Srinagar-Baramula, Bhogpur Sirwal-Pathankot, Batala (excluding)-Pathankot, and Pathankot-Joginder Nagar. The total length of these sections will be 742.1 kilometers. However, the final jurisdiction will be determined following a Detailed Project Report (DPR), as per the ministry’s statement.

The ministry has emphasized the need for the divisional headquarters in Jammu to be equipped with modern office facilities, making full use of information technology. It also aims for a lean organizational structure for the new division. The necessary posts for the functioning of the division will be sourced from existing positions within the Northern Railway.

Railway officials have stated that Jammu will become the 69th division out of 68 rail divisions currently under 17 railway zones. The ministry has called for the preparation of the DPR to assess the infrastructure, organizational needs, and staffing modalities required for the establishment of the new division.
