RBI receives 2nd bomb threat in a month, probe begins

Mumbai, Dec 13:  The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has received a bomb threat via email, marking the second such incident in less than a month. The threatening message, reportedly written in Russian, was sent to the RBI’s official website on Thursday afternoon, warning of an explosion at the Central Bank’s building.

Police have registered a case against the unknown sender at Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station in Mumbai. Authorities are investigating the matter and are working to trace those responsible for the threat.

This follows a similar bomb threat received by the RBI on November 16, when a caller, claiming to be the “CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba,” made a threatening call to the bank’s customer care number. The caller also sang a song before issuing the threat. The police responded swiftly, but no suspicious activity was found during the investigation.

The latest threat comes amid a series of hoax bomb threats across India, particularly targeting schools and airlines. On Friday, six schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email, warning of explosions on December 13-14. Police are following the standard operating procedure (SOP) by conducting detailed checks at the affected schools.

Earlier in December, over 40 schools in Delhi were targeted with similar ransom demands, claiming bombs were planted in school buildings. However, no explosives were discovered in any of these incidents.
