    Emulate Action Against Traffic Violators

It has become utmost necessary that the Government in J&K should take stringent action against the traffic violators because such commuters pose grave risk to human life and property besides creating chaotic situations on roads in the region.

The Baramulla District Police deserves kudos for initiating a major crackdown on the traffic violators as it has reportedly booked 147 bikers and seized 75 vehicles during a comprehensive drive launched to tackle persistent traffic violations.

It is pertinent to mention that the situation in J&K is precarious as far as road accidents due to reckless driving and flouting of traffic norms are concerned.

Hardly a day passes in the Union Territory when there is no fatal mishap on the roads with most of these occurring on account of people taking traffic norms lightly and giving two hoots to following the same in letter and spirit.

In the case of Baramulla Police’s action against traffic violations, it was worsening traffic scenario that has forced the men in blue to come down heavily against those who take traffic rules for granted especially the ones who think it is alright to go for triple riding, driving without helmets, indulging in rash and negligent driving, etc.

It is known to all that such an action acts as effective deterrent therefore it is advisable that such comprehensive drives should be initiated in all the districts without any exception because the traffic scenario in J&K is deteriorating with each passing day, as the same could be gauged by the number of accidents reported from different corners of the UT with many people losing their lives unnecessarily because most of the mishaps on J&K roads are avoidable.

It is also advisable that like the main cities Jammu and Srinagar, other cities and towns should be covered by the CCTV cameras to take befitting action against the habitual defaulters commuting on the roads because this is vital for saving lives and property.

The need of the time is to continuously monitor the roads across the districts and book the traffic violators making it a universal practice because acting tough against such violators once in a blue moon is not enough to streamline the traffic and improve the scenario with regard to mishaps, which have made gloom to fall on many households after these lose their near and dear ones.
