According to the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, intermittent light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and gusty winds are expected through much of next week across Jammu and Kashmir. The forecast indicates Kashmir will avoid any heatwaves over the next eight days.
While hot and dry conditions with potential heatwaves are still on the cards for Jammu’s plains until June 4th. Jammu saw temperatures peak at 42.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday, an above average 3.5 degrees for this time of year.
Parts of the next 24 hours until Monday may see partly cloudy skies and the chance of some light rain and thunderstorms. From the 4th through the 7th, weather is predicted to be partly to generally cloudy with scattered light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in many areas along with brief but strong winds in some spots. A few locations could receive periods of moderate rainfall.
Skies will remain partly to generally cloudy on the 8th and 9th, while drying out from the 10th through the 13th. Farmers have been advised to suspend operations during the 5th and 6th when rain is most likely.
Overnight minimums dipped below average in Kashmir’s Qazigund, Pahalgam and Kokernag. Srinagar saw a low of 13 degrees Celsius, Qazigund 10 degrees, Pahalgam 6.4 degrees and Kokernag 10.2 degrees. Maximums in Srinagar and Pahalgam on Saturday were 1-1.3 degrees above normal at 27.5 and 24.1 degrees respectively. Kokernag topped out at 27.2 degrees while Gulmarg reached 17.3 degrees.
