Date:

Srinagar, September 27

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan at home on leave was shot dead  in a suspected militant attack in north 's Bandipore district late Wednesday night. Three of his family members were injured.

The police said a group of militants barged into the house  of a BSF jawan, identified as Rameez Ahmad of Parray Mohalla Hajin, 30 km from Srinagar, and tried to kidnap him.

“The family resisted and the militants opened indiscriminate fire, killing Rameez and injuring three of his family members,” Bandipore Senior Superintendent of Police Sheikh Zulfiqar said. Soon after the incident, security personnel reached the site and cordoned the area. A search for the assailants has been launched.

It is the second such killing this year. On the evening of May 9, Lt Ummer Fayaz was kidnapped by a group of masked men from his uncle's house in Shopian  during the marriage ceremony of his cousin. His bullet-riddled body was found the following morning.
