    JK HC Bar Jammu to oppose shifting of High Court to Raika

    Tawi, July 20: The J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu has resolved, in its General House Meeting convened today, to oppose the shifting of High Court to Raika Forest Area.

    Amidst heated debates and discussions which saw some moments of pandemonium too, the members expressed their point of views for and against the proposed shifting of J&K High Courts to Raika Forest area where the Chief Justice of laid the foundation stone a week back.  The General House also decided to constitute a committee of advocates to formulate the course of action and submit a report within seven days.

    According to the press release issued by the Bar Association, the members expressed freely their views about the agenda items and threadbare discussions spanning approximately four hours took place with members opposing and favoring the shifting of High Court respectively. The members who opposed the shifting of the High Court included:- Sh. M.K. Bhardwaj, Senior Advocate & Former President JKHCBAJ, Sh. Abhinav Sharma, Senior Advocate & Former President JKHCBAJ, Sh. J.A. Kazmi Advocate, Sh. Nirmal Kotwal Advocate, Sh. M.R. Qureshi Advocate, Sh. H.C. Jalmeria Advocate, Sh. Usman Salaria Advocate & Former Vice President JKHCBAJ, Sh. Bhavishya Sudan Advocate, S. Baldev Singh (Jr) Advocate, Sh. Arvind Bandral Advocate, Ms. Anna Durrani Advocate, Sh. Zamir Muslim Qureshi Advocate, Sh. Shrishti Paul Mengi Advocate, Sh. Yasser Farooq Khan Advocate & General Secretary YLA.

    Other who expressed their views in support of shifting of High Courts and also district courts, and other legal fora along the shifting included Sh. M.A. Goni Senior Advocate, Sh. Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed Advocate, Sh. Atul Raina Advocate, Ms. Mehrukh Sayden Advocate, Sh. Ishant Gupta Advocate.

    M.A. Goni Senior Advocate suggested for the Constitution of a Committee of both senior and junior lawyers to decide future course of action in terms of decision, the General House would take.

    Three resolutions which were passed by voice-votes by the General House are as under.

    (a)  It was resolved that the shifting of the High Court to Raika shall be opposed.

    (b) General House authorized the Office bearers to formulate a Committee of Advocates who will submit their report within 7 days recommending further course of action to the General House to be convened again.

    (c)  The General House with one voice condemned derogatory messages on social media / Whatsapp Groups against the members of the Bar including the Senior Advocates.
