    Seven people were killed after a passenger vehicle skidded off the track and rolled down into deep gorge on Gulabgarh-Ishtyari road in Padder area of district Kishtwar in and .

    The incident occurred in mountainous Padder around 150 kilometers from district headquarters, last night at around 7 pm, when a passenger vehicle bearing registration no. JK02BL-2914 skidded off the track and rolled down into deep gorge near Thumb village in Padder of Kishtwar.

    “A team of senior officers rushed for the spot immediately after they got information about the incident, but police party who was deployed there along with villagers had already started rescue work, but due to darkness they could not continued for long and operation stared again this morning.” a police officer said.

    “This is one of the most dangerous roads in the to travel, but it is a crucial link between Kishtwar and Pradesh. The road has capacity to cater only small vehicles, but construction work is on for its widening, police said.

    “Their bodies were cremated on the same place, where the mishap took place except a driver. The vehicle fell around 1.5 kilometers down.”  He added.

    The deceased were identified as Manoj Kumar son of Mohan Lal of Ungai, Narinder Kumar son of Gian Chand of Thumb, Sunil Kumar son of Sahib Singh of Thumb, Amar Singh son of Dewan Chand of Shawas, Dharminder Singh son of Partap Singh of Bastoon, Rohit Singh son of Roop Singh of Shawas and Rangail Singh son of Bodh Raj of Shawas.

    Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar G. N Balwan also visited the spot and distributed an amount of Rs 5000 per family as an immediate relief from Red Cross Society to the Next of the Kin (NoK) of the deceased. Relief under Chief Minister Relief Fund will also be given to the families.

    Member Legislative Assembly, Doda, Shakti Raj Parihar has also expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of seven persons in the tragic accident.
