Amritsar, March 22: In a shocking incident, the windshields of four buses belonging to the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) were smashed by unidentified individuals at the bus stand here on Saturday. Police reported that pro-Khalistan slogans were also found written on the damaged buses.
The buses, which were parked in the bus stand’s parking lot, were unoccupied at the time of the attack. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no passengers were present inside the vehicles during the incident.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter, although no arrests have been made so far. This act of vandalism follows a recent similar incident in Kharar, Mohali, where the windshield and windows of an HRTC bus were damaged by two unidentified individuals.
These incidents come in the wake of rising tensions over a controversial act in Himachal Pradesh, where some locals removed flags bearing the image of slain militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale from the bikes of a group of youths from Punjab. In retaliation, activists from Dal Khalsa and Sikh Youth of Punjab had pasted images of Bhindranwale on several HRTC and private buses in Hoshiarpur, escalating the controversy.
Authorities are investigating the incidents, seeking to identify those responsible and prevent further disturbances.
