2002 Murder Case: SC directs Gurmeet Ram Rahim, 4 Ors to respond to CBI’s appeal

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday directed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and four others to respond to the CBI’s appeal challenging their acquittal in the 2002 murder case of the sect’s former manager, Ranjit Singh. A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar issued notices to the five individuals, seeking their responses.

The CBI has contested the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which on May 28, 2024, acquitted Singh and the four others involved in the murder. The case has now been brought before the Supreme Court for further examination.
