Sikhs protest against attack on Sikh youth in Kashmir

Jammu, July 29 (KIP): An irresponsible act of chopping of the hair of a Sikh youth in Tral area of Pulwama district in Kashmir valley has been strongly condemned by the members of the Sikh community here in Jammu. To register their equivocal protest against such acts aimed at disturbing the social fabric in the state several frontal Sikh orgnaisations on Thursday organised series of protests in Jammu and issued strict warning to the state administration to immediately identify the real culprits behind the cowardly act and punish the guilty. "We strongly condemn the act of chopping up of hair of a Sikh youth and we warn the state government to weed out such anti-social elements from the society else the Sikh community would be forced to take preventive measures on their own." Deshmesh Sikh organisation, Guru Manyo Granth society and NNO organsied separate protest demonstration in Digiana and Nanak Nagar to register their anger. Traffic near Digiana also remained disrupted due to protest demonstration and the traffic was regulated only after the Sikh youth dispersed after holding protest demonstration. The Guru Manyo Granth Society in a press statement said, "Attack on a Sikh youth by the members of majority community in which his hair were chopped off is highly condemnable as this is a direct attack on the community". The Sikhs who have been protesting against the barbaric killing of Kashmiris have asked the separatist leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and others who say that Sikhs are a part of the Kashmir. We question the criminal silence of these leaders who have not uttered a single word to condemn the barbaric act. "If they say the ongoing freedom struggle was not of the Muslims only but of Sikhs and Hindus in Kashmir also, then why these so called leaders of Kashmir have not uttered a single word to condemn the attack on Sikh community, their criminal silence is highly suspicious of their role in a planned attack on the members of the Sikh community," said Jasdeep Singh president of the Guru Manyo Granth Society. "This shows that the so called freedom struggle in Kashmir is not about the people of Kashmir, but it is specific to a community otherwise the members of the majority community would have come forward to condemn the attack," Singh Said. Sikhs have asked the state government and especially the chief minister Omar Abdullah to take stern action against the people who have committed their heinous crime of dividing and to create a communal rift amongst the members of the two communities; otherwise the act would have serious repercussions across the country. The members of the majority community too should stand on their religion which asks them to safeguard the minority community. Meanwhile, NNO President Harjeet Singh in a statement also condemned the attack on the Sikh youth and said that if the present coalition Government is not in command to control such events /happening then they must resign and Governor rule must be implemented in the State for the safe guard of the masses especially the minority community who are unnecessary harassing by such anti-elements for their vested interest, and also said that the Government may locate the persons who have done such happening and put them behind the bars.
