NC for engagement with Hurriyat, Pakistan
Srinagar, Feb 27 (KNS): National Conference here on Monday called upon the central government to start immediate engagement with the Hurriyat leadership and the Government Of Pakistan instead of imposing curbs on media, religious madrassas and muslim clerics (Molvis') as announced in an advisory by the central government's home ministry.
The party also said that army chief's recent statement on handling protesters can prove detrimental for peace in Jammu & Kashmir.
At a meeting of the core group of the party chaired by Dr. Farooq Abdullah the party president and attended among others by Omar Abdullah, Abdul Rahim Rather, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, Devender Singh Rana, Sajad Ahmad Kichloo, Sakina Itoo, Javid Rana and Nasir Aslam Wani.
The top National Conference leaders voiced their serious concern over an advisory of the central government's home ministry and stressed upon the central government to desist from the proposed policy of imposing curbs on media, religious cleric (Molvis') and religious madrassas.
A key member of the core group on conditions of anonymity told KNS “all pressing issues concerning peace and stability in Jammu & Kashmir including the recent advisory of the central government's home ministry on controlling media, madrassas and religious clerics were discussed at length.
The leaders called upon the central government to immediately start engagement with Hurriyat leadership and the government of Pakistan and invoke some confidence building measures to heal the wounds of Kashmir particularly in South Kashmir where army, and police and paramilitaries are carry out raids on civilian populations and harassing the people at random as was done in early nineties”. He also said that the core group members of the party voiced their serious concerns over the non seriousness of the central government to the proposal of Omar Abdullah led delegation to President, Prime Minister and Union Home Minister during last year's unrest.
Voicing their serious concerns over the recent statement of the army chief on handling with protesters in Kashmir the National Conference core group leader without wishing to be named said “the core group termed army chief's statement on handling with protesters very unfortunate and provocative and warned that such provocative statement can prove detrimental for peace and stability in Jammu & Kashmir”.
