NC boycotts all-party meet to settle scores with PDP

Date:

Tawi, July 21 (KIP):- Is the main opposition party keen on the restoration of peace to ? This question is being debated in the public circles in the state following the decision of NC not to attend the All Party meet convened by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti.

Following this stand taken by the Conference political observers besides senior leaders of PDP and BJP believe that the National Conference is not interested in establishing peace in Kashmir. Those who argue against NC's stand include Nizam-ud-Din Bhat of the PDP and Chander Mohan Sharma of the BJP.

They said that  Mehbooba convened the meeting at the right moment and the reason given by NC leadership that there was much delay in organising an Al Party meet is not tenable because  it was not possible for party leaders to travel to a place where the all party
meet was convened when the turmoil had peaked.

The National Conference has decided not to participate in the all-party meeting called by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here on Thursday in view of the delay in calling such a meeting relating to the law and order situation.

The decision was taken at a party meeting under the chairmanship of NC working president and former CM Omar Abdullah today. Earlier, Omar held a meeting with Governor NN Vohra where the two discussed ways and means to restore peace and normalcy. The Congress and other parties, however, have decided to attend the meeting.

“I regret that Jammu and Kashmir National Conference is unable to participate under the circumstances. Meanwhile, the NC has already submitted a detailed memorandum to the Governor wherein steps to ease the tension have been mentioned,” said general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar.
