The misplaced mediation offer!

Date:

China in order to push further attempted to play another mischief by offering mediation between India and Pakistan on knowing well that the issue its bilateral one and there is no scope for any third party mediation. It is more interesting when China openly demonstrating hostility against India on forums and on India's border (LAC). It was yet another move by China to corner India and to help its friend Pakistan's position.

Further, how come such a role Beijing assumed at its own when its neutrality on most of the issues with its neighbours are questionable.

It is good that India rightly and promptly rejected China's offer to mediate Kashmir issue and said it will address all the issues with Pakistan in ‘bilateral framework'. MEA Spokesperson on Thursday made it clear that India would continue using its diplomatic channels to defuse border standoff with China in Doklam area.

In the latest tussle, India had expressed concerns over China trying to change the status quo at the India- Bhutan-Tibet tri-junction in Doklam area of Sikkim, where Indian troops stopped road construction by Chinese soldiers.

While there was just informal conversation on a range of issues between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at Hamburg during BRICS meeting, there was no headway on the stalemate in Doklam.

China has already illegally grabbed a big chunk of J&K's territory by its military expedition in 1962 and inordinately delayed the LAC settlement while often giving pricks to India. As part of its controversial ‘One Belt, One Roadproject, which India did not approve, Beijing has been constructing into its ally and through Indian territory under Pakistan's illegal occupation amid doubts over who really benefits. “Long live Pak-China Friendship,” they read, advertise in a conference to promote the ChinaPakistan Economic Corridor.

It is better China should say yes to diplomatic measures to diffuse the existing eye-ball to eye-ball situation at Doklam instead of bullying India of war mongering. Much water has flown in Ganges since 1962 and India will not bow down before the hegemony of China. Thus such tantrums will not work out for Dragon this time.
