Jammu Tawi, April 06: A large number of lawyers practising in Jammu wing of J&K High Court and Subordinate Courts held strong protest and demanded rescinding of the Order No. 189 of 2021/RG dated 5.4.2021 passed by the High Court of J&K whereby all Courts in J&K including High Court and Subordinate Courts have been switched over from Physical to Virtual hearing mode. They took out a protest demonstration in the J&K High Court Complex demanding the Chief Justice withdraw the anti-lawyers order and resume the physical hearings. A delegation of protesting lawyers met and apprised the Registrar (Judicial) of the J&K High Court for conveying their demand to the Chief Justice in the right earnest.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the Physical Hearing was resumed in the High Court and Subordinate Courts after 119 days long struggle and dharma conducted by the Lawyers which was suspended on Feb 11, 2021.
HC Jalmeria, a senior lawyer raised a question in a press release issued, “It is astonishing that gathering of lacs of people are addressed by Prime Minister and other leaders in the elections being conducted in five states of West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry; Business establishments are open, public transport plying, Govt Offices are functioning; Why Judiciary should be targeted to be closed for physical access of public and lawyers?”
The protesting lawyers urged the Chief Justice not to be misled by a small group of vested interest and see the interest of the majority of lawyers and the general public. This order would cause impediments in the justice delivery system.
