Jaitley snubs Mani Shankar Aiyar, says no talks with separatists
Jammu Tawi, May 26 (KIP):- The Defence Minister, run Jaitley, has rebuffed
the so called ‘civil society' delegation, whose members are in session with
Kashmiri separatists, by announcing that for the time being the
Government of India will not hold talks with separatists.
In fact earlier also the BJP led NDA Government ignored the
suggestion of Yashwant Sinha,a former external Affairs Minister and
senior BJP leader seeking reopening of channels of dialogue with
separatists and Pakistan.
Even the state unit of the Congress had boycotted the meeting
the ‘civil society' members held with separatists which indicates that
there is no consensus among the national parties about the reopening
of channels of dialogue with separatists.
A delegation led by senior Congress leader Mani
Shankar Aiyar met senior separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz
Umar Farooq and Shabir Shah. However, JKLF chief Yasin Malik refused
to meet the delegation.
The delegation reached Geelani's Hyderpora residence in the afternoon
to discuss the prevailing situation in Kashmir and the steps to be
initiated for bringing peace in the restive valley.
Geelani told the delegation that peaceful ties between India and
Pakistan will remain a distant dream “unless the commitment with
people of Kashmir is fulfilled and the issue is resolved as per their
aspirations”.
During the interaction, the deputation referred to the negative impact
of prevailing situation on education. Geelani said the unjustified use
of force against students was the root cause of the unrest.
The government of India does not want to hold talks with
separatists so long they toes pro-Pakistan line and demanded holding
of a plebiscite for determining the wishes of people of the
state. (KIP)
