Sir,
This is in response to your Editorial “MUCH TO BE DONE ON GST” published in the columns of your esteemed Daily on Wednesday. We were shocked to read despite being of a liberal and secular mindset that the mutton is in the exempt category while Puja material attracts 18% GST. Hail BJP. It appears that the present dispensation posing to be very bold but directionless will not spare all those who perform daily puja as well as last rites of the deceased. In a section of society this has sent a very negative signal.
Furthermore your suggestion that a feedback channel must be established to enable the Govt. to take appropriate reforms based on inputs may not be acceptable to people like Arun Jaitley. Jo Jaitley Ji Kahaen Wohi Theek Hoga. Some people at the peak of their political career brook no suggestion as power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Moreover co-opting like-minded non-partisan stakeholders for maximum reach out is a very healthy suggestion at your end among other lacunas hinted at in your thought provoking editorial based on original thinking and sufficient hard work before wielding the pen. We earnestly wish that more such editorials would see the light of the day so that some of us are educated on the right lines. Sarkari editorials would always sing paeans of praise and too much of flattery is suffocating.
Yours truly,
Prof. Shashank Bhalla
