FIR won't be allowed against NC MLC: Chairman LC

Jammu Tawi, Jan 16: Chairman Legislative Council Haji Inayat Ali today assured the members of the legislative council that FIR won't be lodged against sitting MLC Showkat Hussain Ganaie on the directions of a Jammu local court over his remarks on Burhan Wani the slain Hizb Commander.

Announcing the decision to pacify the NC MLCs, the chairman said FIR can't be lodged against any lawmaker on a remark he makes in the house. He agreed with the members that the decision of the court is tantamount to questioning the credibility and the respect of the legislative council.

He also said that the concerned MLC is at liberty to prove a privilege motion against anyone involved in filing the petition before a local court in Jammu on which the court directed Police to file FIR against the MLC.

Education minister Naeem Akhtar agreed with the observations of the chairman legislative council and said nothing remains to be clarified after the announcement of legislative Council chairman.

MLCs who raised the issue and protested before the chairman council include Dr. Basheer Veeri, Sajad Ahmad Kichloo, Qaisar Jamsheed Lone, Showkat Ganaie and Ghulam Nabi Monga and others. (KNS)
