Explosive found abandoned in Kishtwar

A panic gripped among locals' residents of sensitive Kishtwar town in and on Friday after security forces found explosive material abandoned near fields.

According to reports the locals informed police about the abandoned explosive material wrapped in black polythene bag at Malipath area near mobile tower in Kishtwar this afternoon.

As soon as police got information about the presence of explosive material, senior police officials including SSP, Kishtwar Sandeep Kumar Wazir rushed to the spot and cordoned the area with help of army, CRPF and CISF. Police immediately summoned the dog squad as well as bomb disposal squad of the CISF and army to defuse the explosive.

Police said explosive was inside the black polythene bag and is about half kilogram in weight. The bomb disposal squad is looking into the nature of the explosive and said that every precaution are being taken to avoid and collateral damage or injury to those handling the explosive related material.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishtwar Sundeep Wazir said, “Gelatin sticks are found inside the wrapped black polythene which weight around half a kilograms have been found mysteriously in the field at Kishtwar town,”

“Gelatin is used mostly to blast big rocks or to widen roads, but we are investigating the matter how this material has reached here and who abandoned this explosive material.” the officer said.

The officer ruled out any suspicion and advised people not to panic, “the material is looks old and in very small in quality, however process of its defusing is on.
