BJP opposes ex-gratia to kin of those killed in unrest
Jammu Tawi, January 15
The BJP today formally resolved to oppose its government's decision for granting Ex-gratia to the families of those killed in the violent unrest during the 2016 turmoil in the Valley.
The state working committee that met today evening at Samba, the party in its political resolution strongly opposed the decision of the government.
Sources said the BJP had conveyed its coalition partner PDP that such decisions would encourage the anti-national forces active in Kashmir valley.
“It is clearly mentioned in the political resolution that giving ex gratia and government jobs to the families of those who were killed while attacking posts of security forces and the police would encourage those elements who have declared a war against the nation,” said a source quoting the resolution.
The resolution termed this decision as “premium for separatism”, he added
Interestingly, the political resolution was moved and passed unanimously in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and some BJP ministers.
Although a couple of BJP MLAs have opposed the decision of the state government, party ministers have so far maintained a guarded silence on the issue.
Highly placed sources said the BJP ministers in the coalition government tried to get the language of the political resolution modified with the paragraphs from the political resolution to oppose compensation to the stone-throwers families but they could not succeed.
The political resolution was endorsed by the working committee after it was seconded by Industry Minister Chander Prakash Ganga.
