BJP falls in line with Art 370
BJP is now defensive to ensure survival of the coalition Government so that there was no chance for the imposition of Governor's rule.
In order to demonstrate cordial ties between the BJP and the PDP
the BJP leadership in the centre has announced that it will not tamper
with the Article 370 of the constitution that grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir within the union of India.
The change has come in the BJP circles following the announcement of the Finance
Minister, Haseeb Drabu, that a separate bill will be moved in the state
legislature for extending the GST regime to the state of Jammu and
Kahsmir that too with some amendments.
Abrogation of Article 370 was BJP's election pledge but its partner
the PDP is for protecting it. At one time Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti was so much annoyed with the RSS that she described those seeking abrogation of Article 370 as anti-national
which was resented by the activists and leaders of Sangh parivaar.
Now that the BJP is for prolonging the life of the coalition
Government the BJP leadership has stated that abrogation of Article
370 was not on its agenda and retaining this special status provision
of the constitution would not alter the situation I n the Kashmir
valley.
In fact if majority of people in Kashmir are against the BJP
they are scared of the BJP's intention to do away with Article
370. Now that the level of anger against the BJP may decline and
possibilities are bright for restoration of peace in Kashmir. Solving
the problem of unemployment on one hand and intensify anti-insurgency
drive coupled with introduction of various development projects could
encourage students to give up violence.
