Srinagar, May 21: Army on Sunday killed four militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district after battling them for 36 hours.
After battling infiltrators for over 36 hours, the Army on Sunday killed four militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, officials said, adding that three soldiers were also martyred.
Defence sources said the ongoing operation started on Saturday against a group of militants who were trying to sneak into the Indian side at the Line of Control in Nowgam sector, an army spokesperson said.
Two militants were killed on Sunday while one soldier also died in the operation which lasted for more than 36 hours. On Saturday, two soldiers and two militants were killed in the operation.
“The sanitisation operation is on along the LoC,” the official said adding that four weapons and other war-like stores had been recovered from the encounter site.
Yesterday, it was reported that two terrorists were killed and two soldiers lost their lives during the gun battle.
“#JKOps Two terrorists attempting infiltration in Naogam Sect, Kashmir eliminated. Two soldiers martyred in ongoing op @adgpi,” Indian Army's Northern Command tweeted.
This came after Defence Minister Arun Jaitley's meeting with the senior commanders and troops at a forward post along the Line of Control (LoC), where he reviewed the security situation.
He said that Armed Forces were fully prepared to deal with the militants coming from across the Valley.
